The public meeting has been changed to May 31st at City Hall War Memorial Auditorium from 6:30 - 8:30pm.
In recent days, residents of the Quinobequin Road section of Waban noticed flags posted along the road. Soon after, construction crews from the MDC began to construct posts for a guardrail running along a quarter mile stretch of the road. Concerned for the safety of those traveling down the road, residents immediately called Newton City Hall and officials had no knowledge of such construction. State legislators we also contacted and they were just as puzzled. After numerous conversations with the construction crew, residents learned that this was a DCR project. Neighborhood activists began calling and registering official constructive criticism to DCR as well as to state legislators and City Hall officials. Within 24 hours, the project was halted and the support beams removed pending further discussion among state, local and residential representatives.
Waban residents are grateful for the quick and decisive actions of all parties and welcome a collaborative discussion with DCR, state and city officials in the near future. The Waban Improvement Society will monitor the progress of this group and maintain close communication to keep the public aware of any and all progress.
